Inspiring, developing and connecting the brass players of the future
Wotton Silver Band
Wotton Silver Band is a traditional British brass band who performs at around 15 concerts and competitions each year. The band is made up of about 25 amateur musicians who live locally and rehearse twice each week in Wotton Under Edge, and a training band which is made up of about 15 learners rehearsing once per week. The band’s objective (from its constitution) is to maintain the band as an asset for the local community, which includes supporting the development of young people and promoting the region at national events.
Wotton Band competes in the First Section of contesting bands; this is the second tier of competitive bands which makes Wotton like the ‘Bristol City’ of the brass band world! The highlights of the last few years have been going on tour to France (including performing in Wotton’s twinned town Beaumont le Roger), taking part in the world famous Whit Friday Marches near Manchester, competing in the brass band National Finals twice and performing numerous concerts around Wotton and Dursley. The idea of the Cotswold Edge Brass Festival was born out of a meeting of minds, drawn together by the Wotton Silver Band, and the band has supported the festival from the beginning. Bruce Davies, principal cornet of the band, has worked with tutors Chris, Alan and Philip to run and develop the Festival which continues to go from strength to strength. |
